Random Saturday Stuff
Early this morning Todd and I went to the Racquet Club of Memphis to do a practice run on the 5k course that we will run on Monday night. The first half mile is on a slight incline which makes life a little bit more difficult; however, the rest of the course is pretty flat. Since I have never run in a race in my entire life - my goal is just to finish in the top 40 in my age bracket. I know that sounds ridiculous but there are several thousand people who are going to be running this thing. It should be pretty interesting...
I just watched the most ridiculous commercial for Motel 6. As a matter of fact before I could even get this sentence typed the commercial came on again. We all know about this hotel. Basically, they take pride in being one of the "cheapest" hotels on the market and as a result - they cater to people who are simply looking for a clean place to crash for a night or two. I have never stayed there before, but one thing that I can say about this place is that they know who they are. They understand the audience that they will attract and they do their best to cater to that audience. They do not try to be all things to all people and as a result they are able to be very effective with their target group. Churches can learn a lot from Motel 6. As a church/student ministry/etc., don't be afraid to be who you are. Your effectiveness will multiply and you will be much less frustrated in the process.
